At the age of three, Carlos J. Chavéz moved from Mexico to Arizona, where he was raised. With 13 children, Chavéz's mother did not have the funds to buy fancy clothes for her children, but she did have the talent to make them. The family may not have had a lot of money, but they had beautiful clothes. His mother never learned to speak English, she couldn't use patterns, but would drape the cloth over her children as a form of pattern making, a practice tailors used in bygone days, for Royalty and others of high stature.
Inspired by his 87 year old Mother, Chavéz spent two months in Europe, after completing college, traveling to sixteen countries. Since then, he dedicates several trips each year to prowl in New York, Paris or San Francisco looking for new ideas. Chavéz also loves seeing how a bolt of raw fabric can transform itself into a sports coat, an evening gown or a riding habit.
He continues to build and expand his portfolio and has been fortunate to build a diverse clientele base over the span of his career.
